Environmental monitoring for telecom rooms and substations

A data-centre hall of about 160 m² and a power room of about 75 m², sharing one platform

  • Our role: Equipment and platform supply
  • A television station

Project overview

A television station brought a data-centre hall and a power room into power and environment monitoring. The hall is about 160 m², the power room about 75 m². Each site has one SG-II gateway for environment, power, access and video. UPS and precision cooling are onboarded by protocol work; the hall also joins a micro-module environment system. Both sites share one local server, one management platform and one combined alarm unit, so status, alarms and access sit in one view.

Main functions delivered

  1. Environment: live temperature and humidity in both rooms; linear leak detection and alarms
  2. Power: UPS and precision cooling onboarded by protocol; the hall joins a micro-module system; the power room adds mains metering
  3. Access and video: face or card entry, lock and door status visible, on-site images available
  4. Edge interlock: each SG-II collects and interlocks locally; the gateway can alarm on mains loss
  5. One platform: both rooms share one management application for monitoring, query and tiered alarms
  6. Alarms to people: combined unit for audible-visual warning, with SMS and voice where configured

The problem

Both rooms run unattended. Temperature, leaks, UPS, precision cooling, mains and access sit on separate devices, so duty staff find and locate issues late.

What we connected

  • Temperature/humidity, linear leak detection and mains metering
  • UPS, precision cooling and a micro-module environment system (serial protocol)
  • Access control, door hardware and on-site video
  • SG-II gateways, a local platform and a combined alarm unit

What we did

  • One SG-II per room so environment, power and security onboard nearby
  • UPS, precision cooling and the micro-module system onboarded over their serial protocols, not only as dry contacts
  • Access, locks and cameras join the same duty view
  • Both rooms share the local server and platform; alarms route to duty

How it was rolled out

  1. Survey both rooms and confirm UPS, cooling, micro-module and access interfaces
  2. Connect environment, power onboarding and access/video in the data-centre hall first
  3. Then copy to the power room and add mains metering
  4. Join both rooms to one platform and alarm unit; check routing and permissions

Outcome

  • Both rooms visible on one platform
  • UPS, cooling, micro-module and environment exceptions can be found remotely
  • Leaks and temperature/humidity breaches reach duty
  • Room access is logged

If your site is similar

Send room count and area, UPS/precision-cooling brand and protocol, and whether a micro-module system or access control already exists.
