Centralised environmental monitoring across multiple equipment rooms

22 sites — equipment rooms and plant rooms — centrally managed; edge onboarding on site, monitoring at the centre

  • Our role: Equipment and platform supply
  • A large metallurgical group

Project overview

A large metallurgical group brought equipment rooms and plant rooms across its sites into centralised power and environment monitoring. Twenty-two sites are already on one platform, covering temperature and humidity, leaks, smoke, cooling, access, UPS, power distribution and integrated cabinets. Edge gateways handle protocol onboarding and local interlock; the centre handles overview, alarms, reports and work orders. Cooling on/off and mode, plus cabinet hatches and access, can be operated remotely under permission. The aim is to replace separate rounds with one view, one alarm path and a recorded close-out, and to serve as the template for later sites.

Main functions delivered

  1. Multi-site control: 22 sites on one overview, filterable by area, site, equipment type and alarm grade
  2. Environment: live temperature/humidity with thresholds; leaks and smoke join the same alarm path
  3. Power: cooling status visible; UPS and distribution onboarded by vendor protocol or site points
  4. Remote handling: cooling on/off and mode; cabinet hatch and access under permission, with an operation log
  5. Tiered views: the group sees posture, the region sees its scope, the field sees live data and work orders
  6. Alarm to work order: capture, statistics, notify, dispatch, field feedback and close-out form a loop that can be reviewed

Project list

Environment sensing

Category Item Model Qty Use
Environment Temperature and humidity As installed In service Live capture in key zones, threshold alarms, history available
Environment Leak detection As installed In service Alarms at likely leak points such as condensate, pipework or windows
Environment Smoke detection As installed In service Smoke status joins the shared alarm path

Power equipment

Category Item Model Qty Use
Power Cooling monitor and remote control IR or comms port, as on site In service Status visible; on/off and mode under permission
Power UPS status onboarding Vendor protocol In service Onboards the status and key parameters the UPS can offer
Power Power-distribution monitoring Metering or dry contact, as on site In service Distribution parameters, key breakers or outage status

Access and integrated cabinets

Category Item Model Qty Use
Security Access status and events As installed In service Entry events recorded and linked to exception alarms
Cabinet Integrated cabinet Micro-module or bay, as on site In service Cabinet micro-environment in the site view; hatch and access remotely operable

Platform and operations loop

Category Item Model Qty Use
Onboarding Edge gateway SG / BEC series Per site Multi-protocol onboarding, local interlock and offline cache
Platform Central monitoring platform Tongwei environment platform 1 set Overview of 22 sites, live monitor, reports and permissions
Operations Alarms, notify and work orders Platform standard 1 set Graded alarms, notify people, dispatch, feedback and close-out review

The problem

Sites span plants, equipment types vary, and operations teams are spread out. Each site is logged into and inspected separately, so status is opaque, exceptions surface late, ownership is unclear, and handling is hard to trace.

What we connected

  • Temperature/humidity, leak and smoke
  • Cooling, UPS, power distribution and integrated cabinets
  • Access events and selected remote control (cooling on/off and mode; cabinet hatch and access)
  • Edge gateways, a central platform, alarm notification and work orders

What we did

  • Each site onboarded nearby at a gateway so points are not hauled to one place; the field can cache and interlock if the network drops
  • Existing cooling, UPS, distribution and access are onboarded after protocol and point-table checks, not replaced by default
  • Integrated cabinets join site operations so micro-environment and hatch/access sit with room objects
  • Graded alarms become work orders; permissions split by group, region and field; remote actions need confirm and read-back

How it was rolled out

  1. First bring the 22 sites onto one platform with a shared site, asset and object view
  2. Then connect temperature/humidity, leak, smoke, cooling, access, UPS, distribution and cabinets
  3. Enable cooling and cabinet remote control; check permission, confirm, read-back and logs
  4. Route alarms into work orders, close from the field, and lock an onboarding and acceptance standard that later sites can copy

Outcome

  • 22 sites visible on one platform instead of separate logins and rounds
  • Environment, power, access and cabinet exceptions alarm in one place
  • Some cooling and cabinet actions can be done remotely, with fewer unnecessary site visits
  • Alarm handling is recorded; later sites can onboard to the same standard
